I know this is comparing apples to oranges in the field of acoustics,
but try putting the Polyphon catercorner in the room.  It makes a world
of difference in the bass response of a loudspeaker, so it might make
a difference in musical box soundboard placement as well.  And it costs
nothing to try it out!
