Thorens Disc Musical Box Repair
By Katrina Van Duyn

I want to thank Don Caine. I found our family's Thorens music box
and discs recently; I couldn't say exactly what model it is, but it
was purchased in the mid- to late-'fifties. I felt quite glum when
it didn't work and I couldn't find a repair shop, but I stumbled
upon Mr. Caine's letter response to an inquiry and his suggestions
gave me the courage to try a few fixes.

I obviously had not been winding the box sufficiently, for one thing.
Then, the swing arm was loose; I hadn't noticed that. I gave it
a nice couple of turns of the screwdriver and voila! Many thanks!

(Isn't the Internet wonderful?! And I love this old typeface,
especially for email on the 'Net. If only I could get that great
sound of the carriage-return on hitting "Return.")
