Welte Manufacturer Question
By John McClelland

I recently viewed an upright T100 Welte from approximately 1913. The
only number I could find was on the bottom of the top front cover.
That number was 6539. There were no numbers on the plate or on other
parts of the piano.

The fallboard decal says "The Welte Mignon," with "The" underlined
twice. Other text there identifies the factories as "Freiburg i/B" and
"New York," not the other way around, as on my 1913 Mason & Hamlin
upright T100.

I understand that Welte subcontracted its pianos at that time. So I am
curious as to who might have built this instrument. I thought they
used Krakauer, as well as Mason & Hamlin. Perhaps there were other
firms as well?

Any help identifying the manufacturer is appreciated.
