The other day I was repairing an old roll with rather brittle paper.
When I received the roll it was in good shape with no frayed or torn
edges, leader intact, etc.  I played it several times on my unrestored
Warfield piano before I gave up hope of fixing it myself, and the
automatic tracking (mechanical type) tore off a piece of the roll when
rerolled the last time I played it.

I repaired it the other day, "transplanting" new piano roll paper into
the ripped part, and duplicated the original perforations for the pedal
pneumatics.  I am not sure of the value of this old roll but I appreciate
the tune (QRS 32530, "Life is But a Dream Waltzes").

If an old roll such as this has a repair on it with new paper
substituted for the old, does it reduce the value of the roll overall?
