Passing of Mary Belton of The Pianola Shop
By John Phillips

Hello MMD. I discovered the Pianola Shop in Brighton in, I think,
1977, during a visit to my elderly, and somewhat deaf, uncle. He lived
in Hove, a couple of miles along the coast. I still remember pouncing
on two World's Music rolls for which Mary asked £2 each.

We got talking, and Mary was telling us about her husband, Eddie, who
was in hospital. During the conversation, her old dog came limping in.
I said something about him and then Mary said: "Yes, he's going in the
back legs; I think I'll have to get him put down."

My uncle was horrified and blurted out: "Oh no! Don't do that! The
doctors can do wonderful things these days." I had a struggle not to
laugh while explaining to my uncle that the subject had changed.
