Mason-Hamlin Upright Foot-pumped Player Piano
By Jere DeBacker

[ Ref. Marc Goodman in 120509 MMDigest ]

In 1997 I was contacted by a woman who had just bought a Mason & Hamlin
upright foot-pumped player piano, she said. I was anxious to see it.

The instrument is a beautiful original red mahogany player with a
Kingsbury Carola Inner Player unit built by the Cable Co. which it
says on the fall board. But, it also says clearly on the fallboard,
right up at the top, "Mason & Hamlin" in the original Mason & Hamlin
script. The serial number is 164312 and is dated 1912 in the Pierce
Piano Atlas.

I've done a lot of work on the player system and it works very well
and is a fine piano. I've never known why it also had the name Mason
& Hamlin on it and never found anyone else who knew, either.
