Late Style Duo-Art in 1933 Stroud Grand
By Phil Bordeleau

I, and a few of our North Texas Chapter, are rebuilding a 1933 Stroud
Duo-Art grand, recently acquired by my boss. He is rightfully excited
about this unique late style Duo-Art. I was impressed as I witnessed
how easy the spool box assembly was removed from the piano, especially
when looking back on my experiences with a 1920 Steinway Duo-Art.

Does anyone have any pictures of a complete upper action/air motor
governor area? There is apparently a pallet valve on the governor
which at the moment has no linkage. I suspect this has to do with
reroll and cutouts. This is a 6-point air motor, with the governor
mounted directly above. It _seems_ smaller than on the 1920 Duo-Art
I worked on in the past. Is this correct? The modulator seems reduced
in scale than those of which I normally have familiarity as well.

The piano has a stylized case with turned and tapered, octagonal legs,
with a relief and applique on the sides of the case. Oddly the piano
has only two pedals: soft is only hammer lift and there is no
sostenuto. Is this typical of the Strouds?

Any information/photos/tubing diagrams would be welcome.
