Tune Your Piano Before Presenting It On YouTube
By Peter Vander Veld

Perhaps a reason why piano music sounds so bad on the Internet is
because the "recordist" is probably using the camcorders microphone
which is notoriously "low-fi."

I once recorded my player piano using a camcorder and the result
was a somewhat honky-tonk sound, though the instrument was (and is)
in tune. This was partly because the roll had a rollicking melody
from the 1920's, but also my mic couldn't pick up base resulting in
the somewhat tinny sound. Computer speakers usually offer poor music
reproduction as well.

Often there is quite good music on YouTube generally because good
recording equipment was used in the first place.
