Hi all, I am using a computer for the first time in 17 years!  Many
years ago I purchased a 1913 Artrio Angelus upright that had used
a leather belt.  I was a research engineer for the Navy and was able
to determine that the Gates Vulco-Flex V-Belting fit the bill.  This
was in the 1970's and 100 feet of the belting cost $80.00.

The continuous belting has a grove in the under side.  You cut the belt
to the correct length, punch a hole in each end at the grove, and use a
wire link to connect the two ends of the belt.  The belt works very well
but I must admit that, in my case (in the Artrio), the pulley tension
was set by a spring.  That is, the motor pulley via belt drove the
idler pulley.

The idler pulley shaft also had a gear that via a chain drove the gear
on the pump shaft.  The idler pulley tension is maintained by a spring.
If this is not clear I could take a photo.  I still have about 80 to 90
feet of this belting if it is not being made today.
