Band Organ for Hire
By Dick Leis

I, too, campaigned a 46-key Artizan for eight years. Our initial
advertising thrust was to get a tri-fold pamphlet produced so that we
could make a mass mailing to local industry and social clubs, thinking
they would need something for company picnics. Over the years, that
did produce some events.

I would also canvas local political clubs as we did repeat business
with one group for a local parade for many years. I also had some
luck getting local small businesses, like taverns, to sponsor our rig
in parades. As this was full time, I also did a number of rest and
retirement homes on weekdays at a greatly reduced rate. Seniors relate
to the music, even when dementia sets in.

Over the time I owned the organ, I just about recovered the cost of the
organ, but not the display trailer. Of course, those were better times
in Dayton, Ohio, back in the 1980s.
