Beijing "Forbidden City" Clock Collection
By Rowland Lee

Within the last couple of weeks, whilst searching for good mechanical
music articles on the Internet, I came across a site for a musical
museum which was exhibiting automata clocks from the Beijing museum.
There was a compilation movie showing them individually in action
against a white background, superbly filmed with many close-up shots.

I was entranced, as I have never seen anything like this working
before. I recall that there were two 'elephant clocks', and that
several of the pieces were by Cox of London; just stunning!

That is the good news. The bad news is that I cannot for the life
of me recall how I found this site, whether or not the exhibition was
current or, most importantly, if the museum was in Europe or the USA.
I realise that this information is of somewhat limited utility, but
I offer it in the hope that someone out there has further information
and that this may jog their memory.

This short movie on YouTube, filmed in the museum, will give a taster:
