Using Oil or Grease on Airmotor Valves
By Clinton Gray

In response to Mr. Tuttle's article on lubricating the slide valves
of an airmotor, I have to say that I completely agree with _never_
using oil or grease. However, I find it mildly amusing that while
many manufacturers have plaques on the air motor that specifically
state not to use oil or grease, my late Otto Higel air motor has
a plaque that reads something to the effect: "Positively no Graphite
is to be used on the wooden slide surfaces of this air motor. If the
bushed bearings should squeak, use unsalted beef tallow".

Why any manufacturer would suggest this is beyond me -- it turns
into a real mess, and I am not fond of the smell of beef tallow.

Just my $0.02 worth, I thought there might be a giggle or two from this.
