Steel for Making a Musical Movement Comb
By Jonathan Herz

O-1 oil-hardening tool steel is the usual choice for combs. If you are
up for trying a graduated temper, draw the temper from the comb body
towards the tips. The body can be any temper. Aim for a bronze color
in the tips, for wear-resistance, and dark blue at the tooth root, for
toughness.
