in purchasing a 88-note roll scanner.  Please consider contacting
me before accepting an offer from anyone else.  I have a significant
collection of rolls in-house that I would like to scan and make
available, free to our readers.

 [ The typical system consists of the optical scanner assembly mounted
 [ upon a specialized roll transport mechanism.  The roll image data is
 [ sent to the printer port of a Pentium-class computer running MS-DOS
 [ operating system.  Subsequent processing of the scanned image is by
 [ software programs from several contributors.  A newer system design
 [ is in development which connects to the host computer via Ethernet.
