Building a Transparent Player Piano Action Model
By Jim Katz

You could make a very good simulation of the action, vacuum shifts
and the whole playing path of the player system by installing some LEDs
in various changing colors either plumbed through the roll system or
through a MIDI system operating lights instead of valves and sound.

The result could be a very entertaining instrument to watch as well as
listen to. Often videos of mechanical instruments are kind of boring
to look at -- lots of great sounds, but either nothing moving or only
very repetitive stuff to see.
