Ampico Rachmaninoff "Second Piano Concerto"
By Mike Walter

Hi all, Lester Wolff is looking for someone to add coding to QRS's
Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto. I'd like to throw in my 2 cents
for the wish list.

On April 7, 1919, Sergei Rachmaninoff went to the Ampico studios and
recorded the four following rolls:

  Concerto, Op. 18, No. 2, 1st Movement, 1st Piano
  Concerto, Op. 18, No. 2, 2nd Movement, (1st Piano?)
  Concerto, Op. 18, No. 2, 2nd Movement, 2nd Piano
  Concerto, Op. 18, No. 2, 3rd movement, 1st Piano

None of the rolls were ever released to the public, but I believe that
I have heard rumblings in the past (in the 1970s or 1980s) that someone
had a copy of the trial cuttings and a performance with these rolls,
(or maybe just one of the rolls) had been given.

I am certain that if these rolls were made available (with or without
editing) there would be a great amount of interest generated. Let's
hope that someone sees these postings and manages to persuade the owner
to release these treasures for the listening public to enjoy on their
own pianos.

Best wishes,
Mike Walter
