Roger Kling of Middletown, Delaware, asks what is the purpose of
the wire that connects the motor to the pump casting.  The wire is a
grounding wire.  Under certain very dry conditions, the motion of the
belt can build up a large static electrical charge.  The wire grounds
the pump frame to the motor.
