Carousel Music Only During Rides or Continuous
By Vincent Morgan

Recently several of us from the Lady Liberty Chapter of AMICA visited
the B&B Carrousel in Coney Island. No one was riding and the organ was
silent.

One of our team, who arranges music rolls for carousel organs, wanted
to record the organ. But, first, we were told that no recording was
allowed, but that we could contact the lady in charge. We did so on
the spot. We were told that it would cost us $250 to make any
recording.

I asked why the organ wasn't playing and was told that it was because
no one was riding. I asked the attendant to turn on the carrousel and
organ. Reluctantly, she did. Almost instantly, people on the boardwalk
came to attention and customers began to line up. It doesn't help that
a very large, newly installed, loud speaker blares rock music just
a few yards away from the B&B.
