Carousel Managers Quit After Alleged Insult
By Matthew Caulfield

Serowiks Walk Off Crescent Park Carousel

According to news posted August 13, 2013, to the online newspaper East
Providence Patch (East Providence, Rhode Island), longtime carousel
operators Ed Serowik, Sr., and his son Ed Serowik, Jr., resigned their
positions after being insulted by a member of the Carousel Commission.
No details were given, and Peter Graczykowski, City Manager, had no
comment on the affair, saying it was an "internal matter."

The showpiece Crescent Park Carousel was built by Charles I.D. Looff in
1895 and is now owned and operated by the city of East Providence, R.I.
It turns to the music of a beautiful A. Ruth & Sohn Style 38 band organ
playing Wurlitzer 165 rolls. Ed Serowik, Sr., has been watching over
the carousel for more than six decades. His son is now the Carousel
Manager, while Ed is Maintenance Supervisor.
