We used to cut the vinyl a bit larger than needed, then fold back
the extra inch or so to the tracing line ("kerfing" where needed to
accommodate various radii) and cement the folded-over portion to the
actual dimensioned portion using contact cement.  Then we punched
holes and installed snaps.
