Russian Player Pianos

[In his 131111 MMD posting "Animatic Piano Rolls in Russia," Bill 
Chapman asks whether anyone has seen striker bellows covered with some
kind of paper]

Just to tell you that I have seen Phonola pianos made during World War
1 which used a fine white skin for the striking pneumatics.  Rubber was
not available at that time.  Maybe there is a confusion in materials?
