Loud Pedal MIDI Encoding
By Gordon Ramsey

When 88-note rolls are converted to MIDI files, how is the sustain
encoded? Is this a separate channel out of the range of playing notes?
Is there also a MIDI channel for a soft pedal?

[ Assuming the piano roll data is from a pneumatic reader with pouch
[ switches, and the MIDI file is to control a perforator, the Loud
[ Pedal command is truncated and appears in the note field as low
[ F-sharp below the last note in the bass. Otherwise, for playing
[ using a synth or General MIDI at the computer, the Loud Pedal is
[ encoded as Control 64 and the soft pedal is Control 67. I don't
[ know which encoding the modern solenoid pianos use. -- Robbie
