Pump Motor Drive Belt Replacement
By Charles Davis

Hello MMDers, I have read many threads regarding drive belts on
steamboat pump motors, etc. Instead of the standard (if anything
could be called standard in this hobby) V-belt, like the old Gates
brand, would it be better somehow to replace old belts with the newer
technology "linked" belts that are out today. These can be almost
infinitely adjusted in length by removing or adding links.

I do not know if they come in a variety of sizes or not. I have only
gotten one size, many years ago, to replace the belts on some of my
wood shop equipment and have had excellent results with this change.
Mainly, it reduces and almost eliminates the vibration caused by the
older belts sitting for long periods, causing "bump" spots in the belts.
It's not exactly original but it works great. My two cents worth.
