Triplet & Twin Ampico, Welte, & Duo-Art Rolls
By Allen Ford

Hi All, Per "The Welt-Mignon, It's Music and Musicians," by Charles
Davis Smith and Richard James Howe, pp. 315-316 (if you do not have
a copy it can be found on-line from AMICA), there are 34 "triplet"
rolls made in 1931 that were issued in all three formats, and 5 "twin"
format Welte & Duo-Art rolls in 1930, and 36 in 1932.

I have a few of these rolls and recently purchased from David Saul a
recut word roll 213441 "The King's Horses", by Gay & Graham, played by
Arden & Carroll. It did not take me long to roll out this roll along
side a Welte recut I purchased some years ago from Keystone and hand
print the words onto the Welte recut. I will now have to check my
Ampico old roll collection for more "Triplets" that match Welte recuts
and old Welte rolls that match Welte recuts.

Many years ago Richard Merrill, a friend now deceased, was interested
in trying to develop a system to convert from one systems coding to
another. It is quite a shame he did not live long enough to know, own,
and compare the duplicates that I now have.
