Lubricating Wood Bearings

I'm jumping into the discussion because my first player piano,
a Farrand, had instructions for lubricating the wind motor.  It
specifically called for tallow, which I did use since Mom had just
made a roast beef.  I don't recall if the notice inside the piano
indicated beef tallow.  Perhaps owners of Farrand players have seen
the notice.
