strings."  I second that with an example of changing the stringing
scales.

Del Fandrich, now in the Seattle area, re-designed the stringing
scale on my 1922 5'6" J&C Fischer.  We changed eight bass notes in
the third octave from two wound strings to three wound strings per
note.  That change added a richness and balance to the note sine waves.

I got the idea from my 1923 6'6" Chickering which had three wound
strings in the third octave, factory installed.  The transition from
three wound strings to an unwound string gives a "cleaner" sound also.
