Transcribing Piano Rolls to Sheet Music
By Jeff Taylor

Judging from a search of the Archives, this topic [transcribing piano
rolls to sheet music] hasn't come up for several years. I need to
transcribe several piano rolls from MIDI files for research purposes.
I use Finale (been a fan ever since the very first version), now
Finale 2014. I understand that generating scores in Finale directly
from the MIDI files creates a lot of gobble-de-gook that needs to be
painstakingly edited.

I'm just wondering if, since the last time this was discussed here,
anyone has had more success or found an easier way. And, as a Finale
user, I really don't know how to set the parameters when importing
MIDI (quantizations, etc.) and I have relied on trial and error.
Is there a program that can be used with Finale that will help create
cleaner scores? Is anyone out there dealing with this process?

Thanks,
Jeff Taylor
