String Scales in Mason & Hamlin Ampico Pianos
By Eliyahu Shahar

Perhaps we think that the Mona Lisa would be better if her teeth
were whiter? Maybe someone should have told Picasso that women are
not triangular?

Who needs that primary valve -- simply add a bleed to your secondary
valves that's large enough and you've improved your Duo-Art. How
about extending your Steinway 6" and welding a new frame?

Oh, that Duesenberg would make a lovely hotrod. Why not replace the
engine with a Chevy 354, chop off the top, lower it, reshape the grill
and get rid of that ridiculous hood ornament, and of course add fuzzy
dice. Hey, you're not playing that Stradivarius -- why not chop the
front off of it and make a shadowbox.

Improve the sound of a Mason & Hamlin by changing the stringing scale?
Indeed!
