Manufacture Date of a Wurlitzer Nickelodeon
By Don Teach

If I owned a Wurlitzer nickelodeon then I would want to know more
than just the date. I would also want the model number and any other
historical information I could obtain.

The best source to start with your search is the book by Q. David
Bowers known as the "Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments".
This book can easily be obtained from several sources. I keep several
copies around different parts of my house as I read and reread it
often. The Encyclopedia also lists serial numbers for the Wurlitzers.
I would also want to know how original my nickelodeon was compared
to other Wurlitzers known.

I had a call this week to look a "Coinola" brand piano with stained
glass front that was found in a vacant house. By using this book it
would take no time for a beginner to realize the "Coinola" was not
an original "Coinola".

The mechanical music press website also contains some great information
on Wurlitzers: http://www.mechanicalmusicpress.com/index.html
The information is mostly about the PianOrchestras that Wurlitzer sold.
Someday I hope the site has information about some of the other music
machines Wurlitzer sold.

The Internet cannot replace the value of a good book.
