Hard-to-read Music Box Tune Card
By Juan Alonso

Hi! I'm a native speaker of Spanish. I'll try to complete the
information provided by Matthew Caulfield in 140827 MMDigest.

1. Los ojuelos ("Little eyes") -- I found this tune on Spotify.
It is not a popular tune in Spain. This is a wild guess, but maybe
it is the correct one:

Manuel Rucker: Nice burlada, o los ojuelos

2. Hymno del ciudandana riego ("Riego citizen anthem") -- The title
is awfully written ;-) -- it should be "Himno del ciudadano Riego".
It was Spain's national anthem for a few years (end of the 19th
century, and first third of the 20th century) and now it is full of
political connotations. For more info:

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himno_de_Riego

3. Petra Camera, Valse (unreadable) -- I have no idea about this.

4. Dame au dulce, contradanza -- No idea about this. It could be
French, as Matthew noted, or badly written Spanish (Dame un dulce /
give me candies).

5. El ramillete (the bunch of flowers)

6. El cucuye. Cucuye is a word from American Spanish, not from European
Spanish, so maybe this can help a little.

Cheers,

[ In the book, "Art Song Composers of Spain: An Encyclopedia," by
[ Suzanne Rhodes Draayer, Lanham, Maryland, Scarecrow Press, 2007,
 [ pp. 78-79:
 [
[ Manuel Rücker (Ruecker) (n.d.), composer, was born in Germany but
[ he developed his musical career in Spain during the first quarter
[ of the nineteenth century. His name appeared as Rucker, Rücker,
[ and Ruecker in music published by the Bartolomé Wirmbs Company.
[ Many of his songs were printed in "La Lira do Apolo," a song
[ collection published by Wirmbs in 1818. ... An example of Rücker's
[ compositional style can be seen in "Nice Vengada o Los Ojuelos,"
[ ... in six-eight meter and set in binary form. ... Rücker's songs
[ are held in the British Library and in the Biblioteca Nacional de
 [ España in Madrid.
 [
[ Rücker wrote several songs about Nice, including these two with very
 [ similar titles:
 [
[ Nice burlada, o los ojuelos (Nice spoofed, or the little eyes)
[ Nice vengada, o los ojuelos (Nice avenged, or the little eyes)
 [
[ Might "little eyes" refer to the dice of backgammon, for example?
