I suppose after 100 years you could not expect the original pump to be
in good shape.  We have started the rebuild process on what appears to
be the original, untouched Cremona pump, and found a different approach
than what we are used to.

The outer layer of .030" thick tan motor cloth has stiffeners glued on
as normal, but the stiffeners are covered with pieces of .030" thick
tan leather which extends out to the point that it is glued to the wood
with the motor cloth as a sandwich construction.   All these joints are
reinforced with tack strips.

It obviously worked well.  Should we duplicate this construction, or
proceed without the inner layer of leather?
