Sponge Neoprene for Valve Seats
By D. L. Bullock

[ Re 150217 MMD, Rebuilding Welte T-100 Vorsetzer Valves

Never under any circumstances use sponge neoprene. This stuff has
been the downfall of every player system it was ever used on. Use
tested airtight chrome tanned leather instead.

Sponge neoprene only sealed about the first few months; after that it
leaked like a sieve once the surface wore away. Also, PPCo sold much
of it with a peel-and-stick adhesive back which never worked and slid
around all over, distorting the valve facing in various ways.
