Piano Roll Tenths in the Left Hand
By Jeff Taylor

All ye who listen to piano rolls: Do you have any idea when the
interval of a tenth (as opposed to an octave) first appeared in piano
rolls? My sense is it may have been earlier than sound recordings,
or even sheet music.

Here's a challenge for you -- what's the earliest roll you've heard
that uses tenths in the left hand? (And I mean frequently, not just
one or two.) Obviously by the late 'teens they were everywhere.

Thanks!

Jeff Taylor
