Passing of Marv Freund of Mount Airy, Maryland
By Bruce Miller

I was seriously saddened to hear of the passing of Marv Freund.
Back when I lived in Maryland, I spent many long and late evenings
with Marv in his shop. He had drawers and cabinets of strange and
unbelievable gadgets that he had invented and created.

Marv worked for many years at the National Bureau of Standards, where
he had many, many patents. He developed the Fresnel Lens System which
is still used today to guide military aircraft in for landings, mostly
on aircraft carriers.

Marv was an extremely talented man, a good man, and a good friend.
The world will be a sadder place without his smiling face and sense of
humor. Marv, may the sun always shine in your face, and may the wind
be at your back.

Bon voyage, my friend.
