Donating a Collection to an Institution
By Bruce Clark

About 30 years ago, I was told that Cornell University Library, in
Ithaca, New York, had a vast collection of Ampico reproducing piano
rolls. I visited the library on several occasions and tried to see
them. I was always told they were locked in a back room, and they did
not have the key.

A few years I inquired again about the whereabouts of the rolls, and
was told they remembered them but they are now gone and no one knew
what happened to them. This makes me think twice about donating any of
my own personal belongings to a college or university.
