Mermod Freres Musical Box Tune Information
By Jon Polden

MMD 151130

It is possible that the second song is "Comrades", by British composer
Felix McGlennon, published in 1887. He was a prolific composer and
publisher and a famous music hall artist.

Attachment thumbnail is a slightly different version of the song but the melody is correct and it may be that Jack Conway can compare the tune on his music box with that on the YouTube film. The original song began "Comrades, comrades, ever since we were boys/ sharing each other's sorrows/ sharing each other's joys". The complete monologue can be found at http://monologues.co.uk/musichall/Songs-C/Comrades.htm Marguerite Romance (C. A. White, 1883) was published by the Boston, Massachusetts, firm of White and Smith and dedicated to Miss Bertha Commoss of New Jersey who, I assume, was the mezzo soprano who first made it famous. "Kelton's Reel" (or "Pig Town Fling") was a well-known Civil War tune which was also known by several other titles and appeared in books of Scottish and Irish fiddle tunes. Jon Polden, UK
