Player Piano System Plays Only 80 Notes
By Luke Myers

Hello, I have an Autopiano divided stack in my player piano.
Will the experimental stoppage of the last four pneumatics on each
end render the stack more airtight than with 88 of them? I know
that I read somewhere that most 88-note rolls rarely, if ever,
play the last four notes at each end, and that Gulbransen saved
a lot of money by omitting those last four notes.

[ Another explanation is that Gulbranson and other brands told
[ customers that, by eliminating the 8 extreme notes, the system
[ would also play rolls made for reproducing pianos and expression
[ pianos. This sort of compatibility was quite important to
 [ some buyers. -- Robbie
