My thanks go to Chris Phillips and Bob Taylor for letting us all know
about the passing of John Phillips.  Many years ago I corresponded with
John and, hopefully, helped him with understanding the secrets of his
Marque Ampico foot pumped reproducing piano.  John was very gracious
and appreciative of the help I offered.

Since then I, like many others, have enjoyed his contributions to the
Mechanical Music Digest and have followed him through the ins and outs
of a number of his restorations.  All have had interesting features and
it has been both enlightening and entertaining to follow him through to
their solutions.

Being located so distantly from most of us, I have not had the pleasure
of meeting him in person but he has been present to us on the Digest.
I know I join the rest of the digest subscribers in saying that I will
miss him and send to his family our heartfelt sympathies and prayers.
