I was called to work on a reed organ some time ago.  For a vacuum source
the bellows had been replaced with an old tank-type Electrolux vacuum
cleaner.  To control the speed several [paralleled] light bulbs had been
wired in series with the motor to slow it down.  Needless to say, the
organ was extremely dry!
