Rebuilding Upright Ampico B
By Bob Stewart

As some of you know, years ago I found a factory-made Ampico B upright
and after many delays it is finally being put back in playing condition.
It is a mix of A and B components above the keyboard and a B below the
keyboard with the exception of the style A roll motor governor.

My question is, does the pouch under the cancel valve metal plate,
containing a small hole in the intensity block, also have a small hole
in that pouch? The bass block has one, but there was insect damage in
that block. The treble block pouch was to far gone to tell.

My gut instinct tells me "no hole" as it would seem to defeat the
purpose of a pouch, but thought I would put it to the group if anybody
has ever seen a hole there. If the insects did it they must be
engineers as it is a really round hole!

My other B rebuilds were many years ago before digital cameras or
I would probably have a reference picture to rely on. As you might
guess there were a lot of things different on this piano to get the
B components to fit in an small upright. I thought I would check with
the many years of combined knowledge on MMD to have to do the pouch
only once.
