Steinway D Concert Grand Player Pianos
By John McClelland

Greetings all, I read in a previous posting that Randolph Herr's
Steinway D R may have ended up in Portland, Oregon. On spec, I spoke
with the folks at Classics Piano (the largest shop here) and they have
no knowledge of the instrument. They told me that they do not get
involved in reproducers or players now because no one works on them,
the are too hard to maintain and the owners usually do not want to
spend the money refurbishing them correctly.

There is one other piano shop in town, that I have not had the
privilege of visiting yet; they, and Classic, are the two remaining
shops out of six that were serving the community in more prosperous
times.

I am dismayed by the disappearance of the Steinway D R, to be modified
beyond it's original purpose or ungracefully pushed off the end of a
barge in Long Island Sound.

Sadly,
John McClelland
