Roll Scanning Website Rebuilt
By Terry Smythe

In an earlier message to the MMD, I reported that my ISP (Shaw.ca)
was abandoning its website customers. Not only that, a glitch of some
kind emerged earlier whereby some of my sub pages and files were no
longer available. Any attempt now to visit my old site (Rebirth of
the Player Piano) will be greeted by a terse message that it is now
retired.

No, I did not retire my website, but I have rebuilt it on my own
domain hosted by GoDaddy, and it may now be visited by clicking on

  http://terrysmythe.ca/rebirth

All files previously unavailable are now fully accessible and all the
internal links appear to be working. I have also consolidated all my
MIDI files and deleted all the old multitude of "batch" zip files.

The MIDI files there are all MIDI type 1 files that will work with
pianos equipped with solenoid systems such as Disklavier, Pianocorder,
etc. There not yet any e-rolls type MIDI files for pianos equipped
with e-valve systems.

Recently, I harvested all my old .CIS scan files and made them freely
available, along with Warren Trachtman's software for those inclined to
create their own e-roll MIDI files. These files may still be fetched
by clicking on

Caution repeated: I was among the pioneers in roll scanning, so most of
these .CIS files emerged from my early entry-level take-up-spool driven
scanner. These .CIS files are considered to be not good enough for
quality recuts. The MIDI files emerging from them do appear to provide
reasonably satisfying performance results.

For those inclined to create their own e-roll MIDI files, it would be
very much appreciated if they would be made as freely available as my
MIDI type 1 files.
