Bass Strings For Reproducing Pianos
By Bernt Damm

Whilst computer and scientifically designed strings seem the most
correct choice, they will also result in every piano having the
same type of scientific sound. Dreadful and boring in my opinion,
just like all new pianos.

It is especially the non-scientific imperfections of original design
(Mensur) that give a piano it's charm and character (or not). Why
kill it?

If scientific sound is desired, then why not get something like
a Kawaii piano instead? Equal string tension, whilst desirable from
a staying in tune and structural stress point of view, does not have
much to do with a beautiful tone.

If you have to replace strings on a vintage piano, then at least
stick with the original design. It is only original once!
