Hello everyone!  It's been a while since I've posted on here, but
I've acquired some software that can literally take a video file and,
by recognizing 'light or dark marks' (which can be a bit of a hassle
with word rolls), can trigger MIDI notes live in time with a video
playing.

During the playing, you can adjust the tracking, and there is some
configuration on hole spacing -- but otherwise it's really quite
simple.  Through routing the live MIDI playing into a program such as
Cakewalk recording the notes, a MIDI piano roll scan can be created
with the results pretty accurate!

What I've been doing is using my smartphone to record my player
piano playing each roll and editing each video slightly for lighting
purposes -- but that's it!  It's the future of scanning rolls, and
it's incredibly exciting as hopefully in the near future, anyone can
do it.  I wish I was at liberty to release the program, but it is
being developed by someone in Japan who has not yet finished it.

I am, however creating a free archive of roll scans, now just in the
'beginning stages' but will grow as I scan more of my collection.
