Play-Rite Test Roll T-1
By Dale F. Rowe

Dear Dave, Greetings from The Bronx! In regards to the Play-Rite
Test Roll T-1, that roll was commandeered and produced by several roll
companies, including QRS (who produced an abbreviation of the roll in
question back in the 1950s).

The test roll was also issued as 'The Kelly Tester', which I first
heard on an LP issued by musician-comedian Ian Whitcomb, titled 'Piano
Melt'. The LP included roll performances from Klavier/Play-Rite, with
commentary and singing by Mr. Whitcomb. I was gifted a copy of the LP
by Mr. Whitcomb at a taping of the 'Tomorrow Show', hosted by the late
Tom Snyder. (I was the player tech on set during the taping at the NBC
Studios in the 1970s).

Aside from the aforementioned test roll, there is a rendition of
'I'm Looking Over My Dead Dog Rover', to the tune of 'Four Leaf Clover',
and a humorous selection from the 1920's titled 'The War in Snyder's
Grocery Store' (available on the Klavier label when Klavier rolls were
being produced in California).

Hope this helps.

P.S.: Please have a Safe and Happy 4th!
