Spring Motor Mainspring Repair
By Jim Weir

Hi. I'd like to contribute to the 'how to handle a mainspring' thread.
Is there any way that photos can be loaded onto this site?

The methods my daughter uses on cylinder and disc box mainsprings have
been designed and made by us in my daughter's workshop. The largest
springs handled so far have been from a 26" Stella and a 24" Polyphon.

The Polyphon is the long playing model that from fully wound can run
for more than 20 minutes without further winding. The Stella, with two
mainsprings set one above the other on a common arbor, had to be seen
to be believed.

Removing a large mainspring with the inner end fractured can be
difficult and b***** dangerous if done incorrectly.
