Mike, I use an Avision HF-1116B hand-held scanner and it produces
amazing results.  It doesn't matter how big the picture is or how
manner scans are required to cover the whole picture.  I then put all
of these scans into Adobe Elements 11 and press the 'Collage' button.

When scanning make sure you have at least one inch of overlap on all
scans.  It will take a few minutes and then you will have a completely
seamless picture that you can print to any size.  This scanner is
