PPCo Suction Box Kit vs. Homemade Suction Box
By Luke Myers

Just today I installed a PPCo suction box kit with a Play-Rewind
microswitch. I purchased the kit from Eric Bergstrom for $160,
probably the best $160 spent towards my player piano so far. The
difference in motor noise and performance from the PPCo box and my
homemade one was _definitely_ noticeable.

One big improvement was that Play-Rewind microswitch. Previously
I had had to turn down the entire suction level with one knob, then
turn it back up to a suitable rewind speed. The microswitch took
care of all that.

I can confidently say that a commercially available suction box kit
will over-perform and outclass a homemade one every time. Don't risk
overheating a motor, sucking pouches out of the stack, or breaking
pneumatics with a homemade kit. Of course this is a whole lot more
possible considering that one is an absolute novice in any and all
things player-related, and just "wants to make one for fun."
