My favorite reed puller is a fairly heavy steel wire wrapped around the
middle of a 5/8" diameter wood dowel.  The wire extends about 5 inches
and has a small 90-degree bend at the end (tapped flat).  Wrapping your
fingers around the dowel produces good leverage.
