Farrand Cecilian Player Piano Missing Parts
By David Dewey

It does sound like someone removed the sustain pedal pneumatic and the
soft bass/soft treble pneumatics from Leonardo Forti's piano described
in the 18.04.08 MMD. These could be reproduced. The hardest part would
be the valving, and you could use something like a Wurlitzer valve block
to save milling a valve unit.

The three buttons Leonardo mentioned were the controls for soft bass, soft
treble, and sustain. You get to decide which one is which at this point!
Some clues may still be visible. Look under your keybed for some large
staples which would have held the tubing from the buttons to the sides of
the piano. This will reveal the tubing routing and might even tell you
which buttons did what.

Look at your piano action at each end for a connection to lift rails in
the hammer-rest rail. The amount of movement these take to bring the
hammers to the soft-play point gives you the span of the missing pneumatics,
usually connected by a stiff wire, threaded on at least one end for leather
nuts for adjustment.

Good luck!
